Employee Incentive Fall/Spring Semester

SBCC employees are eligible for a monthly *financial incentive to switch from driving alone (Single Occupant Vehicle, SOV) to sustainable modes of transportation. This is a program supporting SBCC’s Transportation Demand Management Plan (TDMP) and commitment to increased health and sustainability of the SBCC community.

*Financial incentives are available for permanent employees, including permanent part time. Financial incentives are not available to temporary part time or hourly workers (student workers).

What is Smartride.org? Smartride.org interfaces you with all commuting options in your area, its a free matching service and also tracks your commute so you can earn your incentives without the hassle of driving. Use your SBCC pipeline credentials and start today.

Eligibility

Must be current permanent SBCC faculty/staff, either full-time or part-time.

Program Requirements

  1. Participate in program by using sustainable transportation.
  2. Sign up with SmartRide.org  (https://smartride.org/s/sbcc-employee)
  3. Track/report your daily commute days using SmartRide.org and register with SBCC as your employer.
  4. Participation is open from August 22, 2016 – May 30, 2017.

Approved Modes of Transportation

  • Carpool/vanpool
  • Scooter/motorcycle
  • Bicycle, skate, walk
  • Any form of transit or rideshare (bus/train/SmartRide carpool matching/others)

Modes of transportation excluded from incentives include: Single Occupant Vehicle (SOV), Lyft, taxi, drop-off, or other hired services.

*Employees only: Cashout of $2 per day (round trip) by using sustainable transportation, with a maximum of $40 per month.

How to Get Started

SBCC Commute | Incentive Plan
  1. CREATE ACCOUNT (TO LOG YOUR TRIPS): Go to https://smartride.org/s/sbcc-employee
  2. Click “Register to Join”
  3. Complete the sign-in or sign-up process.
  4. Click “Incentives” from the top toolbar, navigate under active, completed, or available on the top left
  5. Click PLAY to “Start” the incentive for the month. We recommend you ‘start’ ALL incentives under the tab. Only need to do this once.
  6. Log your commute trips regularly with SmartRide.org under “Dashboard
  7. At the end of each month claim your incentive with SmartRide.org (you have until the 5th of the following month to submit). The incentive groups will be reported automatically to SBCC you do not need to do anything else.

Car Share

There are two cars for participants to reserve for off campus appointments.  An electric or hybrid vehicle can be reserved for 2 hrs at a time during 8am– 4pm Monday –Friday. Overnight use is permitted by the Vice President of Business Services.

The electric Ford Focus is on the East campus with key check out through Administrative Services A121.

The hybrid Ford CMax is on the West campus with key check out through Facilities & Operations Building.

In order to operate a district vehicle you must be an approved district driver. Employees must register as a district driver to use any college vehicle. Please contact Facilities & Operations (ext 2296) to register.  The process can take up to two weeks to become an approved driver.  Please plan accordingly.

Electric Bike Share

SBCC Electric Bike Share Loan Agreement Form

Electric bikes (Ebike) are available for Program participants who need to take short trips off campus. Electric bikes can be reserved for 2 hrs during 8am– 4pm Monday – Friday. If bikes are available, staff may check them out to ride home during the night and bring back daily to campus. If demand exceeds supply, we will use the lottery system or you may share. Please contact commute@sbcc.edu for more information.

There are 10 Ebikes available. All Ebike lottery members are required to store the bike inside over night, lock it when not in use, and use a helmet at all times.

How to reserve an Ebike:

  1. Complete the electric bike safety course (through SBCC Bike Shop located adjacent to East Campus Bridge) Safety course times are listed on the Bike tab or you may contact BiCi Centro for a one-on-one opportunity.
  2. Complete the SBCC electric bike share loan agreement form.  Return this loan agreement/waiver to Administrative Services  (A120) or email the completed copy to commute@sbcc.edu.
  3. To reserve an electric bike, email commute@sbcc.edu for availability and confirmation.
  4. When steps 1 , 2, and 3 are complete, participants will be granted access (via key card) to electric bikes located in the East Campus Bridge Bike Shed. Each bike has a lock assigned to it.
  5. Return electric bike to shed, lock bike. Return keys to Bike Shop or A120.

Emergency Ride Home

In addition to CarShare, SBCC will continue to provide an emergency ride-home program through Security (x2264). Security can provide taxi vouchers, find you a ride home with another employee, or if available, take a car from the Car Share program.

Shower Facilities

Shower facilities are located in the Physical Education building, please email commute@sbcc.edu if you would like access and you are signed up with smartride.org. You must be signed up for the current incentive program with Smartride.org to get shower access and report your daily commuting. The access list is generated from current smartride.org users. Staff and students who sign up for commuter program access to showers must bring a form of ID and a combination lock to the women’s equipment room, 2nd level of sports pavilion to be issued a locker and gain an access code.

Who’s Eligible

  • If you register on SmartRide.org; and
  • If you carpool, vanpool, use transit, bicycle, or walk to work on occasion or regularly; and
  • If you use a qualifying mode on the day the Emergency Ride Home is needed

What trips are eligible?

Unplanned personal emergencies, such as:

  • Personal or family illness or injury
  • A family crisis
  • Your carpool or vanpool is unavailable for its USUAL schedule
